When Jason arrived at Goodwill in March 2010 he was dependent on family and friends for a place to live and struggling with a mental health disability.
Although Jason had exhibited the entrepreneurial spirit by being self-employed as an auto detailer, he had reached a point that he realized that he needed stable employment with a regular paycheck. He was concerned about his ability to secure the employment he needed.
Goodwill helped Jason by assessing his skills and provided him with 3-months paid training allowing him to build skills and feel more confident in the workplace.
The training provided by Goodwill helped Jason gain valuable job skills, but Jason still felt he needed help with job search, resume preparation, applications and interviewing. Goodwill provided Jason with the support he needed to do a successful job search.
After spending time at Goodwill Jason thought that it might be a good place for him to work. He applied and was hired for a part-time warehouse position at Goodwill. Jason quickly proved that he was hardworking and a team player and has since been promoted to a full-time position.
Jason is now living independently and enjoys being close to work, he’s happy to be employed and to have a sense of true independence. Jason is thrilled to be a contributing member of society again. He says, “Goodwill helped me a lot and it’s a great place to work.”
