Team Goodwill Walking Strong
at the Human Race!

by Debbie Van Dyken

Imagine thousands of people gathered in a school parking lot on a Saturday morning, with live broadcast from KZST 100.1 drumming up the energy. Runners, walkers, furry companions, cheerleaders, and even a human caterpillar enthusiastically get ready to move through various routes in Howarth Park and Spring Lake.

On May 7, Team Goodwill was among those participating in the Human Race - a community event sponsored by The Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. This years theme “30 years and Running Strong”, celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Human Race and the unique opportunity it provides for non-profits, individuals, community members and businesses to work together to raise money for the local organizations working to make Sonoma County a better place for all of us.

For more than 20 years, Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire has participated with a team of walkers and has been represented with a booth in the Human Race Marketplace at Herbert Slater Junior High. Team members offer the public an opportunity to ask questions, tell us how much they love our stores, and donate support.

Community support makes a difference. We recently had a group of ladies who decided to host a Human Race Candle Party with all proceeds benefiting Team Goodwill. This was a fun and creative way for them to host a fundraising event.

Join us as a part of Team Goodwill in 2012 and help us to change lives and strengthen communities through the dignity and power of work!

Special thanks to our Team Goodwill walkers, Laurie Petta, Frank Treanor, Linda Fountaine, Jon Kindt, Linda Lewis, Debbie Van Dyke, Stephanie Munson, Kyle Munson, Mike Munson and Mary Turner. Thank you to our Marketplace table crew Donna Treanor, Peggy Parlee and Hunter Shields. Our thanks to Supervisor Efren Carrillo for supporting the Goodwill mission.

For more information on how can you be part of Team Goodwill for Human Race 2012 please call Stephanie Munson at 523-0550 x 213 or visit our web-site www.gire.org to make a direct donation.
