“My name is Jori Carlyle and I am a Certified Medical Assistant seeking help and work. I came to Initial Job Search (IJS) as a newly single mother with all loss of hope. I felt as if whenever I took 1 step forward something was there to push me 10 steps back. Something was wrong and I had to do something about it and fast. But for me it is hard to ask for help, especially financial assistance. At first I didn’t want to do it, I was ashamed that I couldn’t provide for myself or my son. However, I needed help and on the first day I realized that I wasn’t the only one. The people and staff at Goodwill were there to help; they were very understanding about your situation, and strived to change your way of thinking from negative to positive. You are placed in a class that helps you to build your Job Search Skills. I know if you’re like me, you think you already know the ins and outs on how to get a job and keep it. But that must not be the case for you because you are here, either for a reason you do or do not know about. I had been to school, had a resume made and thought I knew how to act in an interview, but I was never taught. At IJS, they take the time to coach you in how to write a correct and professional resume, cover letter and references. They help you prepare for an interview and discover the type of person and worker you are. They help you discover all the best qualities that make you up as a whole and they assist you in how to put that into words. My Employment Services Specialist (ESS) helped me so much regain my confidence when I was at a low point. My ESS helped me to create a spectacular resume and taught me the dos and don’ts of job interviews, work ethics and basically any job related or personal issue I had. She helped to find resources for jobs, clothes, housing, counseling or food to anyone in need. She gave me a ton of confidence back into myself which I truly believe successfully helped me to find a job and continue my path to my goals. The best part was she did it because she cared, she believed in me and the rest of the class. With this program if you truly give it your all and put in 100% then that’s exactly what you will receive, 100%. There is something out there for everyone and I did know until now, but IJS was for me and it can be everything you need as well as help you to be successful. With all the resources and networking and aid in this program there is no reason someone wouldn’t leave here with what they were looking for. I left feeling like a new person. I got a job, confidence and I feel as if I made new friends. IJS truly helped me in the path to better my son’s life and mine. They can help others as well; it is what you make of it."
