"Four weeks ago, I entered this class hating life because I thought it was a waste of time. I didn’t know why I would have to sit in a class learning how to apply for jobs. I guess you could say I wanted to sit at home and “apply” for jobs on my own time. After the first class I was over it, I felt out of place and alone. I went home thinking I wasn’t going to go back. When I got home, my little boy ran up and hugged me and I knew I was going back. The next morning I got up, went to class and the second I walked in Heather walked up to me and asked me how I was doing. From that point on my opinion had changed.
All I can say is Heather is an amazing teacher and person. She has a way of making us all feel so comfortable and relaxed, almost like family. Each day that I attended class everyone got along and really focused on what we came here to do. I don’t think class would have been like that if it weren’t for Heather. The way she goes out of her way to help each individual person is amazing. Not a lot of teachers do that… it’s either a group thing or nothing. However, Heather made sure all of our questions were answered fully and completely.
I went to my first interview on Wednesday and I was literally shaking as I was driving to the location. I don’t know why but I always seem to let my nerves get the best of me and usually I end up flaking out and just turning around. However, I took a deep breathe, went over my class notes and relaxed. I walked into that interview with so much confidence and enthusiasm because I knew that with the things that Heather taught me in class that I would be just fine. I knew I looked great because you taught me the colors that would look amazing on me. I felt amazing knowing that I was fully prepared.
The interview was amazing and fun as she showed me around the place and I was completely comfortable. We sat down for the actual interview, I answered all the questions honestly, and completely like, we went over in class. Lynn asked for my resume and unbelievably I actually brought one. In past interviews, I had just assumed that they would have it printed out for me. I handed her my resume and she responded, “Oh I remember this resume because out of the 120 applicants yours was the most professional.” I smiled because Heather was the one who put it together for me. I might not get the job, but knowing I did the best I could because of what I was taught makes me happy enough.
The program that you all have put together for all of us is amazing. I am so glad that I stuck to it and didn’t give up. Everyone that works here has all of our best interests at heart. Even the girls in the computer lab go out of their way to help us even though we aren’t a part of their program. I want to thank Heather, and all of you for changing my life and making me see that it’s not that hard to get my life together."
Thank you,
