"Marti and I had the opportunity to take a tour of the Goodwill Corporate Office on Yolanda Avenue yesterday. I have always been a supporter of Goodwill and knew they did a lot for our community, but we were both blown away by the sophistication of outreach in our community. One hundred percent of the donations given to any Goodwill Redwood Empire center stays in the Redwood Empire. In addition to a work re-entry program that supports persons with special needs, and those who have made poor choices in their lives and are now moving forward in a positive direction, they also have a very impressive re-cycling program that benefits our World at large. All donations that are in local Thrift stores that do not sell are sent to the warehouse. They are bundled and discounted in bulk for people that come and purchase for garage sales, other thrift operations, flea markets, etc. The left over merchandise from the bulk sales are then baled and shipped to needy persons in third world countries. The impact of seeing thousands of stuffed animals readied for shipment to another impoverished country reminded me of the “Land of Misfit Toys”. Goodwill is Santa making sure that every unwanted toy has a child to love it!

This is just one example of how these dedicated local heroes are changing lives every day. I encourage everyone to learn more about Goodwill and take an hour out of your day to see this operation in person."
